📖 Über Bromine

One of only two elements that are liquid at room temperature (the other being mercury). A reddish-brown, toxic liquid with a strong, unpleasant odor. Its name comes from the Greek "bromos" meaning stench. Bromine compounds were once widely used as flame retardants and in leaded gasoline, though many uses have been phased out due to environmental concerns.
