A bright yellow solid known since ancient times as brimstone. Essential to life as a component of some amino acids. Sulfuric acid (H2SO4), made from sulfur, is the most produced industrial chemical in the world. Sulfur dioxide emissions from burning coal and volcanic eruptions cause acid rain.
